The Furniture & Product Design course is based on the idea that knowing how to make something enables a designer to expertly explore functionality and the potential for beauty in material culture.<br/><br/>You will be taught to become a skilled designer, maker and to think carefully about the broader cultural, environmental and commercial context for your practice.<br/><br/>Formerly known as 3D Design, this course has created graduates ready to contribute thoughtful and relevant design work for over 25 years. Alumni of the programme have made an impact in a range of professional settings; designing lighting for companies like Anglepoise, developing complex furniture systems for airports, working alongside world-famous sculptors and in hundreds of other creatively rewarding settings.<br/><br/>You will learn within a vibrant studio and workshop-based community and be taught and assessed via a wide range of exciting design briefs. <br/><br/>**Extended Degree** <br/>This extended degree provides an alternative route to higher education and supports those who don’t meet the standard entry requirements for an undergraduate degree. It includes a foundation year which year helps develop your skills, build confidence, and foster your creativity. The extended degree gives you the chance to explore a range of design disciplines linked to the creative design sector.<br/><br/>**What will I learn in my Foundation Year?**<br/>You will develop your knowledge of a broad range of creative design disciplines and equip you with the subject knowledge and essential skills that will be required for your entry into this degree. You will have an opportunity to learn contemporary portfolio skills, work on short projects rotating through the 4 different design specialisms of communication design, product design, fashion design and interior design to explore these subject’s areas in more detail.<br/><br/>The foundation year of the course delivered at level 3 which develops your ability to study in Higher Education is not accredited. Subsequent levels and years are accredited and deliver the knowledge, competencies, and skills required to meet the specific course accreditation requirements that relate to the approved accredited award title.
